16.11.2017 Parliamentary evening at the Bavarian State Parliament in Munich
Parliamentary evening of the Bavarian State Parliament on the quality of court reports: Bavarian Minister of Justice Prof. Dr Winfried Bausback assumes patronage of the interdisciplinary competence centre for expert opinions Kompetenzzentrum für GutachtenThursday, 16 November 2017 - The increasing importance of court expert opinions, the necessary intensification of training, further education and training specific to expert opinions and measures for the quality assurance of expert opinions were the topics of Wednesday's parliamentary evening at the Bavarian State Parliament in Munich. 80 representatives from politics, science and practice accepted the invitation from the Competence Centre for Expert Opinions, the Legal Psychology Section of the Professional Association of German Psychologists (BDP) and the German Society of Psychology. The Bavarian State Minister of Justice, Prof. Dr Winfried Bausback, welcomed the establishment of an interdisciplinary competence centre for expert opinions: "High-quality expert opinions are of outstanding importance in almost all areas of the justice system, for example in criminal proceedings, family court proceedings and in law enforcement," said the Minister. "This makes it all the more important to establish the independent, interdisciplinary competence centre, which will continue to drive quality assurance forward. I am happy to take on the patronage of this centre." "We are delighted that we have been able to win Prof. Dr Winfried Bausback as patron of the competence centre," says Prof. Dr Dr Dr h. c. Ulrich Joos, Chairman of the German Surgical Foundation - project sponsor of the competence centre for expert opinions. A lot has happened in recent years to improve the quality of expert opinions. Prof Dr Conny Antoni, President of the German Society of Psychology (DGPs), agrees: "The Federation of German Psychologists' Associations has been making its contribution since 1995 with its certified further training for specialist psychologists in legal psychology." "In the long term, however, the measures taken so far are not sufficient," adds Dr Anja Kannegießer, Chair of the Board of the Legal Psychology Section of the BDP and project manager of the Competence Centre for Expert Opinions: "There is still a great need for information on expert opinions, a lack of training, further education and training specific to expert opinions and a considerable research deficit in this area." The initiative brings together under one roof information and services for citizens, the media and the judiciary on matters relating to expert opinions on psychological and medical issues in the legal system. This is further complemented by the development of further training in legal psychology and medicine with practical and university expertise and specific research on psychological and medical issues in the legal system. The project is quality-assured and professionally supported by an interdisciplinary advisory board from the fields of science, teaching and practice.
