Projects for school pupils
The promotion of young medical talent begins at school. That is why the Deutsche Chirurgiestiftung supports science projects in schools in particular.

Support for a group of students from the Städtisches Gymnasium Hennef in the "Formula 1 in Schools" competition
EA group of students from the Städtisches Gymnasium Hennef won the state championship of the "Formula 1 in Schools" competition on 3 February 2024. DCS provided financial support to the team in preparation for their participation in the German championship.
The "Formula 1 in Schools" competition is a multidisciplinary, international technology competition in which the task is to develop and manufacture a miniature Formula 1 racing car on a computer and then send it to the state race or, in the next round, to the Germany-wide race. The winners of the German championships compete against each other in the global competition. The challenge of the competition lies in the combination of product development, technology, science, economics and teamwork, as well as presenting your own work to the public. In addition, our task as MINT ambassadors is to spark young people's interest in MINT activities and careers through a variety of activities. In order to participate in the competition (design, rendering, manufacturing and painting of the race car, setting up a presentation stand, team clothing with logo, STEM activities, etc.), we need sponsors and kindly ask for your financial support. Launch of the initiative „Neue Wege zur Uni“
The foundations for young talent in medicine and natural sciences are laid at school. The DCS therefore supports the "New Paths to University" initiative, which aims to offer upper secondary school students, high school graduates and anyone else interested in medicine, natural sciences and engineering the opportunity to learn about various degree programmes and earn their first credits, regardless of where they live.

Students help students
A project in cooperation with the CATS programme in Namibia
The Deutsche Chirurgiestiftung (German Surgery Foundation) aims to support education in Namibia in the fields of natural sciences and medicine with the help of blended learning programmes. E-learning in vocational training is still in its infancy in Namibia. The ‘Schüler helfen Schülern’ (pupils help pupils) project served as an initial analysis of the acceptance and feasibility of e-learning and blended learning projects. In addition, the aim was to establish relationships between German and Namibian students. Specifically, the Deutsche Chirurgiestiftung provided the e-learning platform e-med and the associated infrastructure for a mathematics tutoring project in which pupils from an advanced mathematics course at St. Christophorus Grammar School were to provide online mathematics tutoring to Namibian vocational school pupils in the CATS programme.

Blended learning course on the topic of ‘Smart Materials’
One specific project is the ‘Student Study of Materials Science’. Here, the first semester of the Materials Science course at Dresden University of Technology was designed as an internet-based blended learning course in order to offer interested school pupils the opportunity to earn credits regardless of where they live. The project was carried out as a joint project between the Institute of Materials Science at Instituts für Werkstoffwissenschaft der Technischen Universität Dresden, St. Christophorus Grammar School in Werne and the DCS, and was scientifically supported as part of a doctoral thesis
